Marjorie Sommer Cooke
The modern employment relationship also gives rise to a multitude of legal issues which Ms. Cooke addresses as part of her practice—wrongful termination, compensation disputes, enforcement of non-competition agreements, and discrimination claims. In addition, Ms. Cooke has provided corporate defense in numerous jurisdictions in actions for personal injury and product liability. Ms. Cooke has served as national trial counsel for a number of corporate clients, providing continuing advice on business, intellectual property, and employment litigation issues and handling client litigation nationwide. She has also served as patent litigation counsel for a number of high tech companies. Ms. Cooke has been very successful representing clients in all forms of alternative dispute resolution. She is also available to serve as an independent neutral in the mediation and arbitration of disputes. Ms. Cooke is admitted to practice in the federal and state courts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and California, and the First and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals. She has also appeared pro hac vice in trial matters throughout the United States, including such jurisdictions as New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Washington D.C., Ohio, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, West Virginia, Montana, Texas, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, and Illinois. A 1974 summa cum laude graduate of Drew University, Ms. Cooke received Special Honors in Economics and in History. In 1977, she graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. As an active trial lawyer, Ms. Cooke has participated as an advisor in Harvard’s Trial Advocacy Workshop and served on the faculties of various continuing legal education seminars. From 1995 through 2000, Ms. Cooke served on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. For the years 2004 through 2008, Ms. Cooke has been named a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” in the field of Business Litigation by the publishers of Boston Magazine and Law & Politics Magazine.
